A new favourite song

Every few months it seems, I find a song that just hits home, and I fall totally, head over heels in love with it.

“Lost”, by Michael Buble, is my latest find.

Isn’t it just exquisite?

What a way to live

Today I met some old friends for coffee. They still live in South Africa and it’s been six years since last I saw them. So it was really lovely to catch up, see how they’ve been doing, meet their family – and of course hear about life back in sunny South Africa.

Thing is, after speaking to them, South Africa doesn’t sound all that sunny. Okay – so it still has the best climate in the world. But can you imagine going home from work at the end of the day, arriving back at the gated, electric-fenced complex in which you live, and having a security guard armed with a massive shotgun let you in? My friends justified it by saying they feel safe this way. They don’t have to fear armed attackers following them home.

Think it sounds odd? It’s not. The same friend went to fetch her son from another friend’s house. She was followed in by two men carrying guns. Holding her by the arm, with the gun shoved against her, they led her and the home owner through the house, while the kids played unknowingly in another room. The home owner had a packet of money stashed away for exactly such a crisis. She gave them the money, and they left. Had they not had the money, God only knows what could have happened. In this case, it was a happy ending.

Yep, I know what it’s like. I’ve been in that situation. When we lived in Johannesburg, and went to visit friends, we are also followed by two men with guns. Or should I say two boys. They couldn’t have been older than  15 or 16. They made us lie on the ground and took our car- and everything else we had – with them and vanished into the township close by. Even the police were too scared to follow them in.

We left South Africa soon after that. Our friends have not. Lots of friends have not. I sit here and wonder how on earth they can live with that kind of fear. A very real fear on an every day basis. Do they wake up every morning (like I used to) and wonder if this is the day the fatal shot will finally be fired? (Yes, I’m sorry to tell you it has happened to people we know. Yes, more than one.)

And to think that last week I discovered we’d left our back door open for a few days by mistake. I tut tutted and reminded myself not to do that again. In South Africa, it could have been a lethal oversight.

Damn, I’m glad I no longer live that way.

A new blurb

I have been remiss. As yet, I have not posted the updated version of the blurb for A Question of Trust.

So, here it is:

A Question of Trust
© 2008 Jess Dee

How do you choose between love and honor?

Madeline Jones is having the time of her life with Gabriel Carter, a man who fulfills every one of her sexual fantasies. She’s sure it can’t get any better than this…until Gabe introduces her to his best friend.

When Connor Regan enters the mix, sparks fly. Suddenly Maddie wants more than just Gabe, she wants Connor, too. The two men seem happy to oblige.

But threesomes have a way of getting complicated. Hearts can be broken. Although Gabe and Connor play by a strict set of rules designed to minimize the damage, true love does not always adhere to the guidelines.

Sometimes, to fulfill the dream of having the love of a lifetime, even the most comprehensive codes of honor have to be challenged.

Warning: This book contains spicy sex scenes, uninhibited voyeurism, m-f-m passion, anal play, and a new sandwich recipe.

Wanna know more about the book? Head on over to my website.

I’ve posted the first couple of pages.

Wanna know more about Wicked Garden and Nice and Naughty – the two other books in the Menage and More Anthology?

Head over to Lorelei Jame’s website, and Jayne Rylon’s website.

You won’t be sorry. :)

Jess

PS : My ed and I are working on the updated version of the blurb for Circle of Friends: Only Tyler. I’ll post that as soon as I have it.

An Interview With Lida Sandros

By: Selena Illyria

Hi everyone!

Selena Illyria here, in Capacious Cuppa a cute café here in Vampiropolis. Today I’m going to be sitting down with Lida Sandros, heroine from Discovering Passion, sister of Lucian from A Fling in Vampiropolis.

Lida: Who are you talking to? *Lida pulls out a chair and sits down*

SI: The readers.

Lida: Um, sweetie *Lida looks around* there’s no one here, it’s like four in the afternoon. Only writers and the wait staff here.

SI: Um, well the readers who will be reading this, that’s who I’m talking to.

Lida: Tell me you don’t hear voices.

SI: Ummm . . .

Lida: We’ll take that as a yes. Okay, I’ll play along. Hi readers, Lida Sandros here with Selena Illyria. So, you want me the hot seat? Here I am. Fire away.

SI: Okay, so, tell me a little about Xavier Hideo and your story. How did you two get back together after all these years? You were engaged correct?

Lida: *sigh* Xavier, I adore that man, got me the sweetest set of handcuffs . . . *Lida starts grinning*

SI: Li? *waves hands in front of Lida*

Lida: Sorry, what did you ask?

SI: Xavier, your renunion . . .

Lida: Oh, yeah, sorry. I knew Xavier from when I was little. Adorable bookworm, he wore glasses back then. So cute, in a geeky sort of way. We grew up together, fell in love and got engaged. His job got in the way and he broke it off with me. Recently we met up, loooong story, the fires got stoked and here we are.

SI: What about the armband of Hannibal, I hear that was a part of things.

Lida* narrows her eyes*: Just who are you? You don’t work for the Vamp Gazette do you?

SI: I’m a writer.

Lida: Uh huh, look, the armband is well . . . it’s complicated, can’t really talk about it. Would you look at the time! I gotta go meet Xavier at the Caribbean Queen, can’t be late. *Lida pushes back her chair, stands up and walks away quickly*

SI: Drat, well folks that’s all I could get sorry about that. If you want to know more, check out Discovering Passion, Out Now at Changeling Press.

Blurb:

Lida Sandros is tired of the hamster-wheel-of-love dating scene. She wants someone to settle down and cuddle with — that is, until her ex-fiancé comes to town. But is he back for her — or the artifact she’s been given?

Xavier Hideo has always regretted hurting Lida. Danger’s an occupational hazard, and he walked out rather than put her at risk. When his profession and love collide, he realizes he needs Lida. But can he convince her to take a chance on love?

Xavier groaned as he stroked his cock. Sweat beaded his skin. He was on fire and needed release. An image of blonde hair and pale green eyes refused to leave his mind. Lida, his mind whispered. He tugged on his balls as he increased the grip on his shaft. He missed her so much. He’d had to leave her. If she’d known the truth, she would have followed him. He refused to put her in danger like that. But he couldn’t forget her; her musky perfume, her long ash blonde hair that fell halfway down her back, her icy green eyes darkening with passion after they kissed.

He wanted to be with her now, to feel her body against his, feel her lips moving against his mouth. Fuck her until they both couldn’t move. Fingers of heat slid up and down his spine as he arched his back. His orgasm was close. His balls tightened against his body. That telltale tingle began as his cock twitched in his hand. A stream of pearly fluid shot in the air, landing on his chest, stomach and arm.

“Lida,” he groaned aloud. He continued to pump his cock until his balls were empty and only small dribbles slipped down over his hand. Panting, he opened his eyes, blinking several times to clear his vision. The scent of sex filled the air. As sweat cooled on his body, his heartbeat returned to normal and his breathing became even. He could hear sirens outside of his window. Shouts and swearing floated out into the night. He released his limp shaft and sat up. Throwing his feet over the side of the creaking double bed, he stood and padded toward the small bathroom of his motel room.

The sound of a shot being fired outside caused him to pause. “Ah, the Sensual District. It’s good to be home,” he muttered, before he continued toward the bathroom. He ignored the chipped and cracking mirror and sorry excuse for light that was being given off by the naked bulb, blinking on and off in its weak attempt to do its duty. He turned the knobs of the shower and stepped inside the small, one-person stall. He didn’t even bother hissing at the feel of the freezing cold water pouring from the showerhead.

He needed to push the thoughts of Lida out of his mind and focus on the reason he was in a rundown motel room in the seedier side of Vampiropolis’ Sensual District. He was here to make a deal and continue on his quest to find out more about the founder of Vampiropolis, Hannibal. He had only two hours to make contact with the seller, and his cousin, Dr. Aki Seiko, was looking for him. She had eyes everywhere. If she discovered what he was up to, she would swoop down and steal the prize.

He was after Badr’s Journal, the account of an expedition that had supposedly found the fabled Lost District, or Hannibal’s District. Aki had scoffed at the idea that Badr’s Journal would help them find the Lost District, but she hadn’t been laughing when they found the Armband of Hannibal, now on display at the Vampiropolis Museum. Aki was just as obsessed with the history of Vamp City, Vampiropolis’ nickname, as Xavier was. The only difference was that Xavier was willing to break the rules to get what he wanted, and Aki wasn’t, although she wasn’t above stealing right out from under him when it suited her…
