Migraines and Auras

Yesterday I had the mother of all migraines. Funny thing is, the headaches itself wasn’t too bad. Nope a couple of tablets and a good sleep got me through the worst of it. It was the aura that almost flattened me.

Not sure if this has ever happened to you, but I was driving with my 3 year old, and my windscreen seemed pretty dirty. Everything was distorted. Cleaned it at least five times, to no avail. My vision still was not clear. I then began to wonder if perhaps I had something in my eye. Rubbing and blinking had no effect. If anything, my vision was getting worse.

At which point I thought…uh oh! Migraine.

*Sigh* I guess you get to know the warning signs when you have them often enough. When something completely bizarre happens to your body, with absolutely no rational explanation.

Anyway, things kept getting worse. So bad in fact, that when I arrived to fetch my seven year old at soccer, I parked the car, phoned DH and asked him to come and collect us. No way could I drive us all home-I could not see.

Spent the time waiting for DH to arrive in a haze. Migraine was beginning, head starting to pound, and everything looked fuzzy, as if viewing the world through a crystal glass. To make matters worse, all the sound around me seemed to be coming from a million miles away.

Stood around like a complete moron, talking to the other soccer mums and dads, pretending all was fine, but really hoping I had correctly identified everyone, because their faces were all blurred. I’m sure they thought I was stoned. Or worse, in the process of losing my mind completely. Hell,I thought I was in the process of losing my mind

Ah well, at least my knight in shining armor (DH) arrived to save the day. He hustled us all into the car, took us home and sent me to bed. I spent the rest of the day and night asleep.

Today I feel a little fragile, and a lottle nervous to drive. But at least the aura is gone, and hopefully it won’t be back again. Why am I sharing this with you, you ask? Hmm. I’m not sure. Maybe because I am so thrown by the experience, I’m not convinced it really happened. I’m hoping that writing it all down will put it in perspective for me.

  1. I hope things settle down! I hate when that happens to me. It is the worst feeling. Driving is NOT a good idea, but I’ve had to do it a couple time. A nap is the only thing that works.

  2. Aw, ladies…thank you all for your concern.
Yep, happy to say, I am over it. And after reading up anything I could find about migraine, I am quite reassured I suffered from nothing more than classic symptoms.
